At the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis Friday, 59 farming families were presented with a Hoosier Homestead Award in recognition of their commitment to Indiana agriculture. To be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must be owned by the same family for more than 100 consecutive years and consist of more than 20 acres. There are three qualifications-Centennial (100 years) Sesquicentennial (150 years) and Bicentennial (200 years). The Marchino Farm in Knox County is one of this years recipients of a Sesquintennial award. It has been in the same family since the year 1865. Since it’s inception, over 6,100 families have been given the Hoosier Homestead Award.
